A man from New Jersey has been arrested for hitting a police cruiser during a traffic stop and driving away from the scene.

Police say Karim Douban, 41, is facing several charges including reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a controlled substance and fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle.

According to police, they attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a red Kia with New Jersey plates at 52 Ave V in Gravesend just after 2 p.m. They say that the car was wanted in connection to a previous assault of an officer. That was when the driver, Douban, allegedly rammed into the NYPD cruiser multiple times before driving away.

Later, the red Kia appeared to have crashed on the sidewalk of Homecrest Avenue and Williams Court in Sheepshead Bay. That was when police say they took Douban and his passenger into custody.

An officer was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
