Newly released body‑camera video shows the moments police fatally shot a man during a confrontation last fall in Jersey City.

Police say Steven Sanchez, 26, had an air gun or BB gun and had been firing at police cars before officers confronted him.

The encounter happened in September during the middle of the day on Kennedy Boulevard.

The footage captures officers ordering Sanchez to get down before shots are heard.

Police said Sanchez pointed the air gun at officers and shots were exchanged.

Sgt. Ricardo Reyes opened fire, according to authorities. Reyes suffered non‑life‑threatening injuries.

Sanchez was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The state attorney general released the body‑camera video as part of an investigation that remains open.
