Man sentenced to 30 years for fatal Hazlet shooting
Gaetano Scannavino was sentenced to 30 years in state prison.
A man who was accused of fatally shooting a taxicab driver in Hazlet in 2024 was sentenced to 30 years in state prison.
Gaetano Scannavino, 26, of Brooklyn, was sentenced before the Monmouth County Superior.
Scannavino pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter charges on Dec. 16, 2025.
On the morning of Sep. 14, 2024, Hazlet police responded to a parking lot on Route 36, when they discovered an adult male deceased on the ground near a dumpster with multiple gunshot wounds.
An investigation by the Hazlet Police department resulted in Scannavino as the primary suspect.
Scannavino was later arrested in Brooklyn on Sept. 19, 2024, by members of the New York City Police Department
The victim was identified as Anthony Hill from Eatontown who worked as a driver for the Yellow Car Company for 18 years, according to his obituary.
The sentence is subject to the New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, which mandates that 85 percent of the sentences must be served prior the possibility of parole.
