Back-to-back house fires disrupt Newark street, 2 firefighters injured

Two house fires on the same street in Newark forced families from their homes and injured firefighters Saturday night.
The fires happened within minutes of each other on North Fifth Street.
The first fire broke out just before 7:30 p.m. It was brought under control in less than 30 minutes.
Three people were displaced from that home.
About 10 minutes later, crews were called to a second house fire on the same street, roughly half a mile away.
That fire took more than an hour to get under control.
Two firefighters were injured by falling debris while battling the second blaze.
Five adults and six children were displaced from the second home and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
Arson investigators are looking into both fires, which happened around the same time on the same street.
