An instructional aide has been fired at the Dale Avenue School in Paterson, accused of giving a 6-year old autistic student hot sauce as punishment.

Quasheema Frye was told by the school principal that her son, Lamond, who is non-verbal, was given the hot sauce.

She’s now reaching out to the superintendent and Board of Education for answers as the teacher’s name has not been revealed and she hasn’t been told how or why her child was given the hot sauce.

“More has to be done the teacher needs to be posted everywhere where people can see who she or he is in case they go somewhere else and try this,” said Frye.

The district offered a statement saying that when this happened, it "immediately initiated an investigation in accordance with established protocols. The individual involved is no longer employed by the District. We are committed to ensuring that every student feels safe, respected, and supported.”
