How did a 2-year-old boy fall out of a 20th-story apartment window in Newark?

Detectives will need to determine if window guards were installed within that unit.

Two days after the child died at Elizabeth Towers, detectives with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are still trying to figure out the circumstances of that incident.

The boy has not yet been identified.

Detectives will need to determine if window guards were installed within that unit.

By New Jersey state law, apartment management has to offer families window guards if there is a child under the age of 10 living inside a unit.

To this point, the management team at Elizabeth Towers has not returned News 12 New Jersey’s calls for comment.

Authorities are also trying to determine if there was a parent in the apartment when the child fell and whether or not criminal charges should be filed against anyone who may be responsible for his death.
