Beachgoers were fired up Sunday -- to say the least-- for the first summer weather weekend at Belmar Beach.

Even despite a passing shower earlier in the day, it didn't keep anyone away from time at the shore.

There is an extreme heat warning in effect for multiple counties in New Jersey and temperatures are going to teeter into the 100-degree range early this week.

Residents in town were finally hopping into the ocean to keep cool while down at the shore.

"It [the water] was very nice, but cold 'cause the weather's a little hot," said Gianni, who was visiting Belmar.

"Thank God there's a small breeze 'cause that's the only thing giving relief, but you could feel the heat going right through your body," said Jen, who was also visiting Belmar.

The hot weather proved good for business as well as a News 12 crew on the scene observed people lining up outside iconic restaurants in Belmar.
