It was Day 2 of the trial of Rashid Bynum, the man charged in the murder of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour.

At the Middlesex County Courthouse, the day was highlighted by surveillance video of the crime scene recorded in 2023, as well as testimony from a roommate of Eunice Dwumfour.

Jurors had a chance to hear from Glen Campbell — not only was he one of two roommates living in Sayreville with Dwumfour, he was also the last person to see her alive, other than her killer.

Campbell told jurors he was in the car with Dwumfour, just moments before she was shot at 15 times while sitting inside her SUV.

Campbell testified that before the shooting, Dwumfour picked him up from Walmart, where he was getting groceries.

They drove home and when he walked up to their third-floor apartment, he heard gunfire.

“As soon as I closed the door and close it, that’s when I heard the gunshots, the first round of gunshots. I mean, I just locked the door, I made sure Nicole was fine, and that was pretty much it,” said Campbell.

Campbell explained he was in the apartment with Nicole, Dwumfor’s daughter.

Campbell testified that he didn’t go downstairs to check on her, saying he thought she was headed to church.

But on questioning from the defense, Campbell said he then called her 10 times.

“So you were worried enough to call but not worried enough to go outside?" said defense attorney Michael Ashley on cross-examination.

“I mean if anybody hears gunshots, the last thing they want to do is be outside during a shooting," said Campbell.

When asked if he called the police, Campbell replied that he didn't think he did.

Campbell said he was in a relationship with someone from the church in 2023, but he was not involved with Dwumfour or another woman also living in their apartment.

Earlier in the day, jurors were shown the clothing Dwumfour was wearing when shot.

They were told by a forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy that Dwumfour died from multiple gunshots - including two which pierced her heart.

Surveillance video was also shown in which jurors heard the 15 shots fired on the night of Dwumfour’s death, followed by an image of someone running from the scene.

The trial is expected to continue on Wednesday.
