Two men are facing charges in connection to a killing that took place last summer in Elizabeth.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office says 27-year-old Steven Charles-Piere, of Linden and 20-year-old Brunel Thimotee, of Philadelphia, are accused of killing 47-year-old Jose Aranzamendi.

Officials say that Elizabeth police officers were called to the 400 block of Westminster Avenue in the early morning hours of July 7 or reports of a shooting. They say that officers found Aranzamendi and a 51-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment, but Aranzamendi died from his injuries.

Officials say Charles-Piere and Thimotee were eventually identified as suspects in the shooting. Charles-Pierre was arrested on March 24 and is being held at the Essex County Jail. Thimotee was arrested in Norfolk, Virginia and is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.

Both men face several charges, including first-degree murder and second-degree aggravated assault.
