The driver of a pickup truck escaped serious injury after his vehicle plunged into a lake in Morris County Thursday morning.

When first responders arrived at Lake Montowac in Montville Township Thursday morning, they found a pickup truck submerged in the water. Firefighters, police and tow companies worked to remove the vehicle from the lake, located on Changebridge Road.

According to police, the driver was not seriously injured.

"An interesting morning at Lake Montowac today. Thankfully nobody was injured and our police, tow companies, and first responders acted swiftly to remove the vehicle out of the lake," police said in a statement posted to the Montville Township Police Department's Facebook page.

In addition to first responders, local authorities contacted the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection as well as a hazmat team to respond to the lake to check for any hazardous or environmental issues resulting from the crash.

Traffic in the areas was diverted as crews worked to remove the truck from the water. The circumstances that caused the vehicle to end up in the lake have not yet been released.
