Gov. Phil Murphy signed bipartisan legislation on Tuesday expanding the Sexual Assault Victim’s Bill of Rights.
The new law requires that victims of sexual assault be notified of certain developments concerning the evidence of their respective cases. The legislation expands New Jersey’s existing Sexual Assault Victim’s Bill of Rights, ensuring survivors are granted the updates to which they are entitled.

The signing comes just two weeks after Attorney General Matt Platkin issued a directive mandating that all sexual assault forensic examination kits released to law enforcement must now be tested.
Platkin’s directive came about following a three-year Kane In Your Corner investigation “Victims of the System.”
