Last weekend of summer begins with rainy weather at Belmar beach

It's certainly not the ideal beach day you hope for to kick off a holiday weekend on the last weekend of summer.

For the kickoff to Labor Day weekend, it is a grim start weather wise. At Taylor Pavillion, it is a mix of rain and a bit cooler.

Even a bit of thunder and lightning! It's certainly not the ideal beach day you hope for to kick off a holiday weekend on the last weekend of summer.

You can see the windy flags and umbrellas. That's another thing to keep in mind today, safety first, especially when on the beach. Be sure to keep a lookout for any umbrellas flying around in the wind.

Early risers are up and out on their morning walk or run and bike rides. We learned that tomorrow is the Belmar 5K and we met a runner who was out getting some training in ahead of time.

"I'm out running with two friends we're about to go for a bit to CrossFit," said Ryan, of Belmar. "It's going to be busy over here probably going to be busy here and it's supposed to be nice and the Belmar 5K is tomorrow. Picking up bibs and whatnot."

Not the weather forecast too many were hoping for, kicking off the Labor Day weekend holiday. But as Harry Harsin, the Chief Lifeguard of Belmar points out, we've been lucky with great beach weather for many weekends this summer.

"It's been a very good summer weather wise we've had big heavy crowds over the summer. Typically, Labor Day weekend is quieter with moving out or heading back to school," he said.
