Two people died after a plane that took off from Morris County crashed in Maine Thursday.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane took off earlier in the day from Morristown Municipal Airport. The plane crashed on approach to Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport around12:25 p.m. at the end of the runway in Bar Harbor and resulted in a fire, authorities said.

It's unclear if the victims were from New Jersey. Authorities did not immediately identify the two people who died in the crash.

Maine state police described the crash site as “an active scene” Thursday afternoon. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that multiple agencies responded to the scene and the priority was to “provide aid to those involved, and ensure the safety and effectiveness of emergency responders.”

The National Transportation Safety Board is helping the FAA with its investigation.
