Summery weather is resurging, just in time for the holiday weekend.

Temperatures are warming back into the upper-80s and low-90s. Humidity will smother the state making it feel like the mid- to upper-90s. It’s nothing too out of the ordinary for New Jersey in the summer.

Yes, it will be hot. Yes, it will be humid and yes, unfortunately, there will be a few widely scattered thunderstorms lurking around in the late afternoon/ early evening time frame for the Fourth of July holiday.

I do not think the storms will be severe. However, any storm that has lightning is very dangerous and would be a reason to either delay or postpone fireworks at night. More often than not, most fireworks shows should be OK.

TIMING OF THE STORMS: 6 p.m. through 11 p.m. (The best chance for storms is 6 p.m to 8 p.m.)

WHAT TO EXPECT: Monsoon-like rains, thunder and lightning.

COMING UP: This type of hazy, hot and humid weather with a chance for storms continues into Friday. A better chance of a statewide soaking happens on Saturday. That front slips through Saturday night and cleanses New Jersey's atmospheric palette for Sunday.

The heat sticks around but the humidity is shoved back to the south a bit and brings about a more enjoyable second half to the weekend.
