Temperatures rose above 90 degrees in New Jersey for the fifth day in a row. Temperatures at Newark Liberty International Airport reached 100 degrees – the hottest day so far in 2024.

Many New Jersey residents went to their local community pools as a way to cool off from the blistering heat.

The lifeguards at the Brookside Swim Club in Milltown say that safety is important when coming to a local pool. The lifeguards say guests should make sure not to run around the pool. Parents are urged to watch their children and make sure they know how to swim before being left alone.

Young children should be using swim floats and stay in the shallow end of the pool.

Temperatures above 90 degrees are expected through the weekend.
