Guide: Solar eclipse watch parties in New Jersey and where to get glasses

Here are some of the locations in New Jersey that have events and viewing parties for the solar eclipse.

Monday’s total solar eclipse will happen along Mexico’s Pacific coast and cross into the United States, before exiting over Canada.

Parts of the Northeast will experience the path of totality. Below are some of the locations in the Garden State that have events and viewing parties for the solar eclipse:

Hasbrouck Heights Free Public Library

Liberty Science Center

  • The Great Eclipse at 10 a.m. at Liberty Science Center, 222 Jersey City Boulevard , Jersey City. More information

Montclair Public Library

  • Solar Eclipse: Live Stream and activity drop-in from noon to 3 p.m. at the main library auditorium. More information

Morris Museum

  • Solar Eclipse Viewing Event from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Morris Museum, 6 Normandy Heights Road , Morristown.

  • Outdoor eclipse viewing is rain or shine. Free with RSVP. More information

New Jersey Botanical Garden

  • Partial Solar Eclipse viewing from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Carriage House courtyard, Morris Road, Ringwood.

  • Free event. Rain or clouds cancel. More information

Nutley Library

  • Solar eclipse glasses offered to Nutley adult library card holders on Saturday and Monday.

  • Teens and tweens (grades 6-12) can claim their own glasses after school on Monday at the Eclipse Party from 3 to 4:30 p.m. More information

Old Bridge Library

  • Eclipse celebration from 2 to 4 p.m.

  • Limited number of eclipse glasses available to program attendees while supplies last. More information

Sandy Hook

  • Total Solar Eclipse Watch Party starts at 2 p.m. Parking Lot E, Sandy Hook Unit. Free event. More information.

Scotch Plains' viewing party at Jerseyland Park

  • 2377 Richmond St., starting at 2 p.m.

  • Eclipse glasses will be available for the first 100 guests. More information

South Branch Preserve

  • Solar eclipse party from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at South Branch Preserve, 56-60 Wolfe Road, Budd Lake.

  • Free viewing glasses will be available. More information.

Summit Free Public Library

  • Total Eclipse Viewing and Livestream from 1 to 4 p.m. on the front lawn, 75 Maple St., Summit. More information

The Newark Museum of Art

  • Solar Eclipse Event from 2 to 5 p.m. at 49 Washington St., Newark. Free event. More information
