Black has written over 30 fantasy novels for kids and teens. She's the recipient of numerous awards and has had her stories translated into 32 languages worldwide.
The West Long Branch native is best known for her “Folk of the Air” series and “The Spiderwick Chronicles.” A movie based on those books was released in 2008, and a television adaption is set to be released on Roku in April.
Fans of Black’s “Folk of the Air” series have been begging for a movie adaption, and rumors are swirling online that there is one in the works.

Black just finished up her latest book tour for the “Prisoner's Throne,” and she's already looking toward what's next.
"You know, given where I grew up, down the Shore, I lived three miles from the beach. There's some stuff I've always wanted to write that I've never gotten to write,” she said.
Black offered advice for those who are interested in becoming authors themselves.
"I think you should write for your reader self. I think a lot of times we have wisdom about what books should be like or what kind of writing rules we should follow, and it took me a long time to realize I am my ideal reader. I'm the only reader I will ever really know," she said.
