Tammy Murphy, the first lady of New Jersey, suspended her campaign for the U.S. Senate race over the weekend.
News 12 New Jersey’s Tony Caputo says most voters he spoke with in Morristown supported Murphy’s decision to drop out of the race.
Morristown resident Melissa McGurrin says she would have liked to see Murphy stay in the Senate race but supports her decision to leave.
“I think we need a refresh. She probably would’ve been good, who knows,” McGurrin said.

While announcing she is leaving the race, Murphy made it clear she was not ready to wage a negative campaign and waste resources tearing down a fellow Democrat to move forward.
Malcolm Butler, of Morristown, said he believes it was the right move for Murphy to drop out.
“It was nice that she did do that, so we stay complete and we don’t have fighting in the Democrat system,” Butler said.
Murphy’s decision to drop out likely clears the way for Rep. Andy Kim in the Democratic primary on June 4.
