The Hillsborough school board presented its tentative budget for the next school year at this week's board of education meeting, and if it goes through, cuts are on the horizon.
New Jersey is cutting state aid to the Hillsborough School District by $2.7 million.
Superintendent Mike Volpe explained the budget presented will look different than the final budget which is scheduled for a vote on April 29.
Volpe sent a message at the board of education meeting that said, if you're concerned about state aid cuts to schools, contact your legislators.
He shared a story about his son's education and success with fears that current students won't have the same opportunities that his son did.
“My son was privileged as a student to receive in this testimony, intervention services, gifted and talented services, small class sizes, middle school sports, mental health support, advanced placement course offerings and anything else you can think of. It's all now on the chopping block,” Volpe said.
News 12 New Jersey reached out to Gov. Phil Murphy for comment but has not heard back.
