Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop has rescinded the endorsement he made for New Jersey first lady Tammy Murphy in her race for the United States Senate.

Fulop, who has entered the race to be New Jersey’s next governor, says that he was wrong in his early support of Murphy for the Senate.

“After watching the county conventions, I believe that [Rep.] Andy Kim has proven that he's the better candidate, with a clearer message, and he brings a better chance of success in November,” Fulop stated.

Kim and Murphy are vying for the seat held by Sen. Bob Menendez. The senior senator has not announced if he would be running for reelection. He is currently facing federal bribery charges.

News 12 New Jersey reached out to the Murphy campaign about Fulop’s announcement but did not hear back.
