A fire erupted at a multifamily house in Perth Amboy early Monday morning leaving 19 people displaced, according to fire officials.
Fire officials say the fire started in the basement.
Perth Amboy Fire Chief Ed Mullen says there were no injuries. He says the fire was reported around 3:30 a.m. and flames were coming through the basement.
A witness told News 12 New Jersey that flames were seen shooting out of the window.
Mullen says the Red Cross and city relocation officers are working with the displaced residents as the building is uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
