One man was killed and another man was injured in a shooting Tuesday in New Brunswick, according to Middlesex County prosecutors.

They say authorities responded to the area of Throop Avenue and Delavan Street around 7 p.m. following a report of a shooting.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Numi Simmons, of New Brunswick, and an unnamed male victim both sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to Robert Wood Hospital for treatment.

Simmons died from his injuries, officials say. The other male victim is currently in critical condition.

Prosecutors say this incident does not appear to be a random act of violence and that there does not appear to be a threat to the public.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Sean Freeman of the New Brunswick Police Department at 732-745-5200 or Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3477.
