A 50-year-old man died after he was struck and killed Tuesday while trying to cross a street in Sayreville, according to police.

It happened at Washington Road and Walling Street around 6 p.m. Authorities say the man’s name is being withheld until his next of kin can be notified.

Police say there is no crosswalk where the man was walking. They say EMS tried to revive the man on the scene and brought him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he died.

The vehicle that struck the victim was travelling east bound on Washington Road. Police say the driver stopped and the investigation is ongoing. No summons have been issued.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Patrolman Thomas Calise of the traffic safety bureau at 732-525-5430.
