Winter is coming. Ready or not, the temperatures are about to drop.

It is going to be cold and there could be some festive flurries in the forecast. No accumulations. Just flurries being squeezed out of the clouds from extremely cold air aloft.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and cold. A bit of a breeze makes it feel colder through the overnight and first thing in the morning. Feels like 25 – 30 degrees.

TUESDAY: Chilled sunshine. Daytime high in most neighborhoods won't reach 40 degrees. The gusty wind will make it feel like a February morning, however. It will feel like 20 to 25 degrees.

TUESDAY NIGHT/ WEDNESDAY MORNING: Clear and downright frigid. Wind chills are the coldest since last winter. It will feel like the mid to upper teens in most areas (13 to 20 degrees). Dress appropriately at the bus stop and train station.

WEDNESDAY: Still cold under mainly sunny skies. High of 38 degrees, but the winds are changing direction by the end of the day and temperatures will begin to recover to seasonable levels by the end of the week.

THURSDAY: Still sunny, high of 48 degrees.

Clouding over with a chance for showers on Friday. Back to the low 50s.

A NOTE ABOUT WINTER:

Winter, the last two years, has been just a time frame on a calendar. We've been in a bit of a snow drought. It has been (as of today) 273 days since our last snowfall of 1 inch or more, 1.2 inches on Feb. 27, 2023 pulled us out of our SECOND longest snowless stretch since we've been keeping records at Newark Liberty International Airport - 378 days from Feb. 13, 2022 to Feb. 26, 2023.

Now, I'm sure you are asking yourself, "So Dave, what's the longest stretch?" I'm glad you asked – 661 days! Newark Liberty went from Feb. 23, 1972 to Dec. 15, 1973 without at least 1 inch of snow. Just some random useless knowledge for you on a Monday.
