A former United States Army major and his wife are facing tougher sentences for the abuse of their adopted children.

John and Carolyn Jackson were originally found guilty of the abuse in 2015. Prosecutors say the abuse went on for years between 2005 and 2010. The abuse included breaking the children’s bones and depriving them of food – all while force-feeding them hot sauce.

Officials say the abuse happened on a Morris County Army base. Court documents referred to the abuse as “training.’

Errors in their original sentencing brought the couple back before a Newark judge. They now face a combined 19 years in prison. This is the fourth time the couple has been sentenced.
