Fire chief: Smoke alarms save family of 7 from house fire in Sayreville

The fire chief says all seven family members got out of the home on Furman Avenue after hearing their smoke alarms.

Fire officials say a house was destroyed in a fire on Monday in Sayreville.

The house was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene around 3 a.m., according to Matt Johnsen, a fire chief on the scene.

All seven family members got out of the house on Furman Avenue after hearing their smoke alarms, Johnsen added.

No injuries were reported. There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
