Thousands of people in Hunterdon County are in the dark due to a major power outage, according to Jersey Central Power & Light.

The company says that “a high-voltage transmission line that feeds one of the substations in the area has lost power.” Officials say the outage is impacting around 300 customers in Flemington and the surrounding areas of Hunterdon County.

More than 15,000 customers were without power at the peak of the outage.

The outage came on a day when temperatures reached the upper-90s.

Officials said they hoped to have the power restored by around 7:30 p.m., but the outage still persisted as of 10 p.m.
