Engineers for NJ Transit, the third largest commuter rail in the country, have unanimously voted to strike. They want better wages and a new contract saying they haven't had a raise since 2019.

The strike could be delayed until 2024 due to the Railway Labor Act. The law is meant to help regulate negotiations between unions and management.

This would be the first strike at the transit agency in 30 years.

NJ Transit said in a statement that they are committed to continuing to “negotiate in good faith since the start of this process."

The statement also said, “We look forward to getting a signed contract that delivers the same benefits to our locomotive engineers that every other rail union member currently enjoys and ensures that NJ Transit customers can continue to count on convenient, reliable and uninterrupted rail service.”
