Hundreds of tenants in Plainfield who were evicted earlier this week are being housed temporarily at Plainfield High School.

The Office of Emergency Management is providing a space for those tenants after the city condemned two buildings for having 235 maintenance violations.

The two buildings were 501 and 515 West Seventh St. While 515 had violations residents were able to go back inside while building owners work to fix them but the people living in 501 unfortunately cannot. There’s a sign outside the building directing those tenants to come here to the high school.

The Office of Emergency Management told News 12 about six people stayed here overnight, but they could get even more.

Emergency management officers added that more than 100 people have come by seeking services regarding housing, food vouchers and clothing. The school is providing three meals a day and people in the neighborhood have been bringing in clothing, diapers, and toiletries.
