Dover Township residents in Ocean County will now have to get used to saying they are from Toms River Township.
Residents voted Tuesday to officially change the name of the township. A group called the Dover Township Name Change Committee says the switch will help business. The group also says the change will end confusion between Dover Township in Ocean County and the town of Dover in Morris County.
Some residents say they are happy with the change because they had always called the area Toms River. Others are sad to see the name Dover go. The name change will become official November 14. The mayor has estimated the cost of the changeover at approximately $20,000.
