Two detectives were hospitalized Wednesday after they were exposed to an unknown substance while responding to a possible overdose call, Cherry Hill police said.
Authorities said the detectives found a woman, who later died of an apparent heroin overdose, at a home in the 200 block of Heritage Road in Cherry Hill around 9 a.m.
The detectives, one from Cherry Hill police and one from Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, were exposed to an unknown substance while processing the scene, police said. A source told News 12 New Jersey that the substance was likely a type of heroin.
The officers were treated at Cooper University Hospital in Camden and have since been released.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
