Two sports fields in New Jersey were closedMonday after tests of their artificial turf turned up unsafelevels of lead.Hoboken attorney Steven Kleinman says the city shut down the playing field at Frank Sinatra Park after the tests revealed lead levelsfar exceeding the Environmental Protection Agency's allowableconcentration of the metal.The College of New Jersey's Lions Stadium field was also shownto contain excessive lead. Schools spokesman Matthew Golden toldThe Signal, the school's student newspaper, it would be closeduntil at least early May.The fields, along with 10 others, were tested after a Newarkfield had similar results last fall.It is not known how easily lead from turf is absorbed by thebody. Results of further tests on the high-lead turf samples areexpected early next month.
