Two New Brunswick men, both 18, have each been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the killing of a 16-year-old boy in March 2025, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

Anjel Ponse Paz and Jerry Cuevas-Sanchez were sentenced Sept. 28 by Superior Court Judge Colleen M. Flynn. Both pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter on May 6.

Police responded to reports of gunfire near Rutgers Street and Lee Avenue in New Brunswick around 6:35 p.m. on March 31, 2025. Prosecutors said the investigation linked both men to the fatal shooting of the 16-year-old city resident.

Both were prosecuted as adults following a Family Court hearing.
