2 former Rangers lead Devils to victory against rivals

The New Jersey Devils beat their Hudson River rivals, the New York Rangers, in a shootout with a score of 4-3.
Devils center Brian Boyle was the team’s hero Thursday with a backhand goal that beat Rangers goalie Henrik Lungqvist and tied the game 3-3 late in the third period. Boyle then scoring again in the shootout to win the game.
The Devils tied their league high in shots for the season with 48 shot on net this game.
The Devils kicked off the scoring early in the game. Former Ranger John Moore scored his fourth goal of the season for the Devils just seven minutes into the game.
The Rangers would answer back with two quick goals by Jimmy Vesey and Nick Holden, giving them the lead after the first period.
In the second period, Blake Coleman of the Devils showed some skills with a short-handed goal, tying the game 2-2.
In the third period, the Rangers would score again just two minutes in. Ranger Kevin Hayes deflected a goal past Cory Schneider, making it 3-2.
But Boyle’s goal would eventually lead them to overtime, a shootout and the victory.
This is the second time the Devils have beaten the Rangers in three meetings this season. The teams won’t play against each other again until April.
