A 10-hour standoff in Matawan has ended peacefully, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police were called to a home on Johnson Avenue near Harrel Street Monday afternoon for reports of a person barricaded inside their home. Authorities did not release details about why the person refused to come out.

The police response prompted Matawan High School officials to issue a temporary shelter-in-place. After-school activities were also canceled as a precaution. Normal dismissal procedures were followed.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office posted on its official Twitter page that there wasn’t any threat to the public during the standoff. 

Streets around the area were closed and some residents told News 12 New Jersey that they were not allowed to return to their homes due to the closures.

Further details about the incident were not immediately released.
