One person is dead after a fishing boat capsized yesterday off the New Jersey coast.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the 44-foot Mandy Ness capsized off Long Beach Island, about 10 miles off the New Jersey coast. Long-time fisherman, Jimmy Mears, 55 got stuck under the overturned boat
The victim's brother heard the distress call, was nearby, and rushed to the scene in his boat, the "Frances Ann". He managed to rescue another crew member who went overboard, but couldn't save his brother.
A Coast Guard rescue swimmer pulled Mears' unresponsive body from underneath the capsized hull. Mears was taken by helicopter to the Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City and pronounced dead after being transferred to a nearby hospital.
