Two people have been taken into custody in connection with a shooting Sunday night in Jersey City that left a man dead and a child injured, authorities said.
Authorities said the shooting happened around 10 p.m. Sunday at the corner of Ocean and Van Nostrand avenues. A large police presence was centered around two bicycles on the sidewalk and a white Dodge Charger in the street.
News 12 New Jersey learned the victim is a 19-year-old man, who has not yet been identified. Officials said they believe he was the intended target.
The child, who is a 10-year-old girl, was taken to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. The girl reportedly was sitting in her mother’s car when she was shot in the lower left part of her body. She underwent surgery and is expected to survive.
Jersey City police officers, who were on patrol at the time of the shooting, took the two suspects into custody after a foot chase and also recovered two weapons, police said.
Authorities said the men will likely face charges in connection with the shooting.
