A protest in Trenton over the death of George Floyd left a number of businesses temporarily boarded up, both from damage and as a precaution. A local artist has now turned those boards into a canvas for positive art for the city.
“I’m not a politician or an activist, I’m an artist,” says Leon Rainbow.
Rainbow and a group of other artist friends turned the wooden boards into an urban art gallery with positive messages.
“In the most important times, I feel that’s when the city, that is when the people, really come together, and I feel like that’s important,” Rainbow says.
Rainbow says that the property owners gave him permission to paint. He says that while he understands that the boards will soon come down, he wants anyone who seems them to be inspired.
Rainbow says that he hopes that the artwork can be saved as the businesses reopen and exhibited in the future.
