Hopatcong schools to open Sept. 10 due to mold contamination

All Hopatcong schools will be starting late this year due to mold found in two of the buildings.
Students were supposed to start the new year on Sept. 6 and 7 – but will now open Monday, Sept. 10.
The mold spores were found at Hudson Maxim Elementary School and Tulsa Trail Elementary School. Health officials are now conducting tests at all five schools in the district to make sure that they are safe for the students.
A mother tells News 12 New Jersey that parents are concerned by the news.
“Annoyed.  Surprised.  Upset.  Wondering if it's in other schools.  My son is allergic to mold so now I have concerns, is it in the middle school?  Has the middle school been tested?" Beverly Schneider asks.
Schneider’s son Joshua is about to start seventh grade. He says that he is happy for the extended summer vacation, but also says that he was looking forward to seeing all his friends.
The schools were supposed to have open houses before classes began, but they have now been canceled.
Mold has been found in several other schools across New Jersey. Officials say that this is due to the damp, rainy weather New Jersey has seen over the past few weeks.
