Relief can be found along the immediate Jersey Shore, including Toms River, on the last day of the excessive heat, but potentially severe storms could impact the area later today.
The town worked to get all entrances back open to Ortley Beach following a storm over Memorial Day weekend.
“It's a credit to everybody working on the beach and the challenge to really get it up to speed because I think what people have been yearning for the last year and five months is to get a return in normalcy, and I think this is helping,” says Cliff Schafer, of Califon.
The extensive heat is scorching areas all over New Jersey, even just feet away from the water.
“I tried to walk on the boardwalk this morning,” says Maureen Brosnan, of Rockland County, New York. “I got about 10 blocks, and I took my shoes off, and I started to come down by the ocean. It's just so nice to come down here, really is.”
