Sen. Cory Booker unveiled his plans to curb gun violence in the United States.
The senator from New Jersey says that part of his plan includes requiring all gun owners to be licensed by the federal government, like a passport.
Booker, who is a Democratic 2020 presidential candidate, says that gun owners should also have to complete a gun-safety course prior to getting their license. Thirteen states and Washington D.C. have some form of licensing or permit rules before people can buy guns.
Booker says that he would also like to see a ban on assault weapons. He is proposing funding for research on gun violence and community program.
The senator says that his plans are all in an effort to make it harder for criminals to get guns.
"Enough is enough. We're going to bring a fight [to] the NRA and the gun lobby and those people who don't stand with the majority of Republicans who believe we should be taking steps to end the carnage in America. I will not only lead this fight, but we will win this fight,” Booker says.
Booker says that he wants to IRS to investigate the NRA’s tax-exempt status.
