Powerful wind gusts knock out power to thousands, cause damage around NJ
Powerful wind gusts wreaked havoc on New Jersey Friday afternoon.
Wind gusts reached up to 60 mph on Friday, breaking tree branches and powerlines.
New Jersey’s utility companies reported thousands of customers without power by the afternoon. Crews were out working to restore the electricity.
Two utility poles snapped in half along Amboy Avenue in Metuchen. A similar incident happened along Bruce Court in Millstone. The wind caused live wires to send sparks up into the trees.
A tree fell on New Market Avenue in South Plainfield, taking some powerlines with it. Those lines fell onto a house. There were no reports of any injuries.
And a tree fell onto a house on Sommer Avenue in Maplewood, damaging the roof.
