Authorities say a man who goaded a Manchester Township police officer into shooting him had written a note apologizing for using the officer in his suicide.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says 18-year-old Limichael Shine, of Toms River, called 911 on Sunday and said he wanted a police officer because he was going to kill himself.

Authorities say Shine told Manchester Township police to shoot him. They say he walked toward officers with a knife, despite orders to drop the weapon. 

Police say that Shine lunged at officers in a threatening way with the knife and an officer shot him once. Officers apparently tried to give Shine CPR, but he later died at a hospital from his injuries.

A note was found near Shine in which he said his goal was to have an officer take his life.

Shine apparently worked as a house cleaner with his mother at the home where the incident occurred.

The shooting is under investigation.
