An 83-year-old woman living in a house in Hauppauge with no heat through all the holidays is getting some much-needed help.
Ilse Homer was moved to tears this week when crews showed up at her house to install a new heating system.
“We saw on News 12 that there was a customer in need. So we reached out to her to help her. [We] don't like anybody not having heat, especially in the winter,” says Jeff Kuhr, Home Depot District service manager.
Home Depot, Weil-McLain and Popular Plumbing teamed up to donate their time and products to fix the problems free of charge.
Homer's trouble's started on Thanksgiving Day when her boiler broke.
The temperature in her house plummeted to 32 degrees. It was so cold that the water in her flower vase froze.
Several pipes also froze and burst, causing floods and destroying thousands of dollars’ worth of furniture, clothes and family heirlooms.
Homer blamed Sears, the company she bought the boiler from 10 years ago, for failing honor her contract to fix the broken boiler.

Crews are not only installing a new boiler, they're replacing all of the broken pipes. The heat is expected to be back on by this weekend and Homer says she can't wait to move back into a warm house.
A Sears spokesman told News 12 the company has been unable to reach Homer to assess the situation. Homer says she has at least two dozen text messages from Sears making and canceling appointments to service the boiler.
