Emergency tree service crews have been busy working around New Jersey to remove fallen trees around the state after several recent snowstorms.
Tree service experts say that trees were so badly battered by the latest storms that even if they haven’t fallen yet, some trees may still have to come down.
“Three nor’easters in a row. My guys have been working 14-15 hours a day,” says Daivis Tree Service owner Daivis Ramirez.
Ramirez says that many of the trees have become compromised by being broken in half or split.
“A lot of them need to be taken down,” Ramirez says. “The others can be trimmed or saved, but it’s a lot of damage."
Ramirez says that homeowners should look for split branches or if the tree moves with a little bit of wind. If so, they may want to have the tree taken down.
“All of the water running underneath the dirt has been softening the roots. So a little bit of wind knocks the trees over,” Ramirez says.
One homeowner says that he isn’t taking any chances and is removing an entire row of trees from his property after one of them fell onto the house.
Another homeowner says that he worries about the stability of his own trees.
“We hope after this month it’s over…that’s the main concern, that nobody gets hurt,” says homeowner Bruce Green.
Ramirez says that homeowners who are concerned about weak-looking trees and branches on their property should call a tree service to assess the danger. He says that tree companies are in high demand and that he's completed six emergency tree jobs, with more requests building up.
