Tropical Storm Elsa is starting to make its way north along the eastern seaboard. Remnants from the storm could possibly reach the Jersey Shore by Friday.
Florida is currently getting pounded by winds of 65 mph and heavy rain. But by the time Elsa reaches New Jersey, winds should only be around 35 mph. This would give the Garden State a break from major power outages like the state experienced during powerful thunderstorms on Tuesday.
Forecasters are suggesting that the rain totals in New Jersey from Elsa won’t be as much as what Florida has experienced.
“Partially because it’s going to spend a long time over land as it makes its way up the East Coast. Still, counterclockwise motion can pull a lot of moisture off the Atlantic and dump it into New Jersey,” says state climatologist David Robinson.
Because a strong storm surge is not expected, New Jersey may also avoid severe beach erosion.
