13h agoA parking garage in Elizabeth that was closed off due to safety concerns is now moving into a demolition phase.
The garage is located at Elizabeth Plaza. It was inspected on Wednesday to make sure it was structurally sound.
This comes after the county received a report of someone hearing unusual noises. An assessment was done, and the conclusion was that the parking structure was "not in imminent danger."
News 12 has learned that the aging structure is expected to be demolished. The Union County Council is currently in the process of reviewing bids and aims to make an award at the upcoming meeting. Once an agreement is finalized, the necessary permits will need to be obtained.
An exact date for demolition is not currently known but is expected to happen next spring.
