A 73-year-old homeowner has been identified as the victim of a fatal house fire Wednesday morning in New Brunswick, police said.
New Brunswick Fire Director Robert Rawl said crews arrived at the scene on Stockton Road around 12:45 a.m. to find a two-story home engulfed in flames.
“They arrived and had heavy smoke from the first and second-story eaves,” he said. “We (did) an extensive search and that's when we realized that someone was in the building."
New Brunswick police said firefighters found Loretta Katko dead in a bedroom of the home.
An investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing, but fire officials said it does not appear to be suspicious.
