Weakened Noel brings winds, waves to Jersey shore
? The remains of Hurricane Noel pounded the Jersey shore with rains and heavy winds Saturday as it moved north in the Atlantic.
The National Weather Service clocked winds at 45 mph in Atlantic City and 47 mph in Barnegat Light.
Waves were about two feet higher than normal, prompting fears that beach erosion would cause minor flooding during high tide.
Crews were on standby in case of power outages, flooding or evacuations.
Some tried to take advantage of the good fishing conditions, but surfing proved more difficult. Several surfers said they?d wait until Sunday to ride the waves when the conditions would be better.
