Trenton police will soon be getting help from Mercer County. Last fall, 100 Trenton police officers were laid off. Since the layoffs, Trenton Mayor Tony Mack has made a public plea for help and the Mercer County Sheriff's Department has answered the call.
Starting sometime in the next two weeks, the Mercer County Sheriff's Department will begin to assist the Trenton police.
Authorities say the cost to Mercer County taxpayers, or if it would be any cheaper than Trenton hiring back its own officers, is unknown at this time.
